The Outlast Trials– Review
The third installment in the iconic video game series Outlast. The Outlast Trials were announced in December 2017. Developed by the video game development company Red Barrels Inc. So, and the company’s founder said that this game would not a prequel to the previous installment. Instead, the timeline of this game is set even before the first installment of the game, which makes it so that this will be the prequel to the previous two installments which makes people wonder if this will probably answer their questions regarding the first two games in the series.
If you are not a big fan of the horror genre, you might be unfamiliar with the Outlast series. The previous two versions of the game are set in the first-person perspective and of the psychological horror survival trope. The Outlast Trials is no different, but there is a slight twist. The developers wanted to push their creativity and challenge their boundaries to create something unique this time. So they came up with an idea to incorporate co-op gameplay, and for the first time, you will be able to experience a horror game in a multiplayer environment. But if you want to experience the fun for yourself, there is also the option to play solo.
The Outlast Trials– Gameplay
Now, let’s divert our focus to the story of the game. As you’ve read before, the Outlast Trials is a prequel to the previous two installments. Set during the cold war era, Murkoff Corporations took humans as prisoners and started conducting illegal experiments on them. The experiments include different ways to test brainwashing and control other people’s minds. So, You will play as one of the test subjects of Murkoff Corporation and team up with your friends (up to four), or even alone to survive against the corporation.
You will come face to face with lots of creepy characters and have to comprehend them with your team. These ghostly locales were also once like you. Test subjects to the corporation changed and disfigured due to the unimaginable horrors conducted upon them. Even though they were victims of the corporation. They have lost their minds and will not hesitate to make your gaming experience less friendly and bloodier.
Although they released a teaser for us on June 13, 2020, Very little is known about its gameplay features or any other key features. Red Barrel Inc. said that the game was still in development. What is revealed in the trailer might be subject to future changes. The Outlast Trials After the teaser, it was announced to release in August 2021. Sadly, that was no longer the case caused due of the pandemic. They had to delay the date, and now it is scheduled to come out in 2022.

The trailer shows players running through the hallways of what seems to be inside a vast laboratory. Dead bodies lie scattered on the ground. But, Enemies wait for you at every bend in the endless maze of the hallways. The Outlast Trials will feel like a scene from the movie series Saw. However, what makes it creepier is the person’s voice through the intercoms or microphones on the walls. The voice seems to help the players escape and comprehend the enemies but is it truly all that is? What if the voice behind the intercoms is planning something far more sinister or nefarious? What lies in front of them? Even if they manage to escape Murkoff Corporation? Or was it all just a big lie?
