They kept the humans as a source of fuel and built a simulated world for the humans to live in. In The Matrix Awakens- They also fed directly into their subconscious with electromagnetic waves. While the humans stuck in their simulated world think that everything is within their control.
So, They are being controlled by machines. How will they know that this is not the real world? And even if they know, can they face the harsh truth of what lies ahead?
