Starting off, I have picked out the game Watch Dogs. Watch Dogs is an excellent open world game that has its elements of crime and hacking. It went through release in 2014 by popular developer Ubisoft Montreal. It is part of a whole series with similar gameplay and names. The latest game of the series is Watch Dogs: Legion.

Moreover, it is a third-person game. It also has a very strong story behind it. In brief, the game follows a man named Aiden Peirce, who is a grey hat hacker and is looking for revenge for the murder of his niece through a car accident. We also get to dive deep down into the world of the mafia, human trafficking and so much more. Outside the limited storyline, there are more missions that we can play and hunt down predators and criminals. It also contains pursuit and escape missions. The story in general contains everything that makes one complete. Betrayal, love, deception, and so on. In brief, the game puts the players into the shoes of Aiden well and will make you feel like a badass.

Again, not only the game has a huge explorable map, but it also has a very strong story and memorable villains. The game is placed on a fictional island filled with pirates and crime. The main character is Jason Brody, who is held captive at first by pirates and their leader Vaas, who is said to be one of the best villains for a game. In brief, it is Vaas’ plan to sell the people off to slavery. The mission, in general, is to free all of Jason’s family and friends and doing so transforms Jason completely. On the side, you can liberate pirate outposts and hunt other animals, which we must use to create weapons, bags, and medicines.

Players must go through and get tattoos and skills, which improve with time. Generally, the players and thousands of stuff to explore and do in the game. Overall, it is one of the best open world games in my book.

BATMAN ARKHAM KNIGHT

For a more mysterious and fictionalized feel, this game is the one to pick. It went through releasing in 2015 by Rocksteady Studios. Moreover, it is a part of a series with similar iconic games.

In brief, the game is set after the events of 2011’s Batman Arkham City. Bruce Wayne or Batman faces off against more of his greatest foes, who has been causing destruction in Gotham. Their main goal is to destroy the mantle of Batman. The game is a perfect blend of melee combat, puzzle, and open world ecstasy. Indeed, the game also has brilliant graphics and smooth gameplay.

The main villains of the game are Scarecrow, the Penguin, and much more. Scarecrow launches an attack, causing the city to evacuate completely. There are also many more side missions with more villains. At last, all the biggest names of the criminal underworld of Gotham unite to destroy their only resistance, Batman. It also has creepy and unsettling vibes to it.

It is available to play on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One. From the series, the previous games are also excellent open world games.

The game consists of a very good story and competitive combat. The hand-to-hand combat featuring older Japanese weapons like Katanas is way harder to play through. It achieved many nominations and award wins for its graphics and visuals.

As mentioned, it consists of a very vast open-world that is calming and very pleasing to the eye. Indeed, it has a lot to take in and experience. As a result, it is one of the best games to play in my opinion.

The game is available to experience on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

HORIZON ZERO DAWN

Horizon Zero Dawn is an open-world games action-adventure game that went through releasing in 2017 by Guerilla Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

In brief, the plot of the game follows a character named Aloy, who is a young and energetic hunter. She sets out on a quest of finding out her past and gets faced by the obstacle of machines and robots. Overall, the game is a very good mix of futuristic robots and natural forests. It is set in a post-apocalyptic open-world game.

Which makes it that much more interesting. The player must use ranged weapons such as spears and arrows to push through the obstacles. Moreover, they can also play through side quests and explore the beautiful open world games.

A sequel to the game will come out in February 2022. It is available to play on PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows.

SPIDER-MAN

Spider-Man is a PlayStation exclusive that went through development with Insomniac Games in 2018. Since the release of the game, there also came out a remaster and Spider-Man Miles Morales, a spinoff. The sequel, Spider-Man 2, is under development.

Generally, we all know the story of the ever so iconic character of Spider-Man. But just for recap, the story follows Peter Parker and his journey through being Spider-Man. It is set in a beautifully crafted and realistic New York City. The game has been loved by fans for its realistic swing physics and amazing open world.

In the main story, Mister Negative plots to take control of the criminal underworld by releasing a deadly virus, Spider-Man must make it stop while also dealing with his own personal problems. In the side quests, there is so much more to explore and many villains such as Doctor Octopus, Scorpion, and much more. The game consists of every main suit in Spider-Man comics and films. Indeed, Insomniac has managed to create one of the best superhero games of all time. The open world games feature adds so much to it as well. As a result, it makes you live and feel like Peter Parker or Spider-Man.

GRAND THEFT AUTO 5

It is very difficult to make an open world games list without including this game. Grand Theft Auto 5 went through releasing and development with Rockstar Games in 2013. It is the seventh main game and 15^th overall of the iconic and special Grand Theft Auto series.

Generally, the game is set on a fictional state San Andreas, based on real-life Southern California. The open world games map of this game is arguably one of the best maps for a game. It has never failed to have something new for the player to experience. Other than the main story, there is plenty of side missions, challenges, and so much more to play. You can freely roam and explore, even go on drives! There is also an open countryside to the map called Los Santos.

In brief, the main story of the game follows retired bank robber Michael De Santa, street gangster Franklin Clinton, and gunrunner and drug dealer Trevor Phillips. In the game, we must orchestrate the perfect heists while under the pressure from the corrupt government and higher power criminals. We can play the game from both first- and third-person perspectives. We can also control all three characters and switch in between as well.
